first things first, i know this blog would be eve n more interesting if i had pictures of the actual events BUT all my batteries were dead and it was a spur of the moment thing, well, kind of a spur of the moment thing. so. i read an article about nanay puring in a back issue of real living while having my hair cut. she's an old lady who buys EVERYTHING you want to dispose of and resells it. so since i had recently been on a 3 or 4- month long cleaning therapy and accumulated a massive amount of useless things, aling puring seemed heaven sent. pero. wait listed ako! ganun ka hectic ang sked niya dahil apparently fully booked na siya. celebrity ito te. so finally, last night, sabi ng anak niyang si ate malou, BAKA daw madaanan ako if nanay puring still has time. ate malou confirmed around 20 minutes before nanay puring arrived at my front gate. so mega hakot at labas ng lagpas 10 kahon ng lumang gamit, appliances, libro, damit, tape (ni barry white, manilow, at michael bolton - sa nanay ko yan ha), at kung anu-ano pa. pagdating niya, ako pa ang pinasalubungan ng sandamakmak na camote, saging at mani. WOW! :) so, she went through all my stuff while i was frantically bringing out everything else. she got out her notepad from her very shiny black leather briefcase (yes, very profes sional-looking) and wrote down a figure (which shall remain undisclosed). i said yes right away, decided not to haggle, lest she walk away with nothing and leave me with everything (oo, parang baliktad pero lugi ako sa sitwasyon na ito). so everything that could fit was crammed into her white L200 van. the rest that didnt fit will have to wait until they can come back for it. it feels so good to let go of so much junk! you should try it! (parang endorser lang ng sabon o shampoo) so goodbye junk, hello fabulous home makeover! weeeeeee! banana-kamotecue party anyone? :)
Dear EMP, Today at approximately 12:30 pm, I rode one of your cabs with plate number TWL 254 from Divisoria to Teacher's Village, Quezon City. It was raining and I had a garbage bag full of shirts in tow (100 shirts). You see, this is a normal activity for me, being that I run a shirt-printing business. I have ridden countless cabs from Divisoria to Quezon City so I know that the shortest route is to take C3 or cut across bambang, tayuman then come out at espana.
The taxi driver, demanded an additional 50 pesos. i disagreed and the issue remained unsettled while we were easing our way out of the rotonda in front of the binondo church.
DIALOGUE #1: BINONDO CHURCH ROTONDA driver: san ka? steph: quezon city, teacher's village driver: plus 50 steph: 30 lang. driver: 50. steph: (got in the cab) ay hindi manong 30 lang sumbong ko kayo sa may ari ng EMP. (OO KURIPOT AKO)
DIALOUGE #2: IN THE CAB steph: san tayo dadaan? driver: (umiling lang) steph: manong san po tayo dadaan? driver: ikaw saan mo ba gusto? steph: kayo nga po tinatanong ko kung saan nyo balak dumaan (to myself) kayo ang driver db?
he was navigating his way through the very narrow and traffic streets of escolta. Take note that despite my familiarity with divisoria, chinatown itself remains unchartered territory to me. So it was only when he turned left at escolta and we were directly under the LRT that I realized that he was going to take recto to get to quezon city.
TRAFFIC SA RECTO KAHIT ANONG ORAS KAHIT ANONG ARAW.
ETO NA...
DIALOGUE #3: SOMEWHERE ALONG ESCOLTA steph: manong bakit tayo dito dumaan? driver: e saan mo ba gusto dumaan? steph: sa recto tayo dadaan? e ang traffic sa recto! (tumataas na boses ko by this time) driver: e di bumaba ka na lang.
HININTO NG DRIVER ANG TAXI SA GITNA NG ESCOLTA.
UMUULAN.
Did I mention that I had 100 SHIRTS IN TOW???
DIALOGUE #4: IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD RAINING steph: bakit mo ako pinapababa? driver: bumaba ka na lang dito. steph: putangina naman oh. gago pa la e. papababain mo ako e kita mong ang dami kong dala. saan ako kukuha ng taxi dito? driver: bakit mo ako minumura? steph: bakit mo ako binababa sa gitna ng kalsada? driver: bumaba ka na.
HE STARTED REMOVING MY BAGGAGE.
I admit I was verging on hysterical at this point.
I got his plate number. He refused to give his name. He dropped me off in the middle of escolta with 2 heavy bags in the rain.
I couldn't find a policeman.
A stupid bystander interrupted and started telling me to keep quiet and insisted that he was "pacifying" me.
HUWAG KANG NAKIKISALI SA HINDI MO GULO.
I was crying on the phone while talking to Gelo when another bystander took pity on me, got me a cab and loaded my stuff.
God bless him.
EMP, I hope you get this. Fire that driver and then teach your drivers manners.
MANILA POLICE, where are you when I need you? Having lunch or smoking in the shade, away from the rain?
Respectfully yours, Steph
P.S. Taxi driver #2 empathized ng bonggang bongga and probably repeated his "gago-yung-driver-na-yun.magharap-kayo-sa-ltfrb-yadayadayada" speech three times.
I got home, taxi driver #2 did not give back my change 20 pesos lang naman pero 20 pa rin yun. That's exclusive of the 10 peso additional fee.
And to think he said, "nasisira mga mababait na driver sa mga buwang na sira ulong driver na ganyan! kung ako yan hindi ko na isasakay. at hindi ko naman ibababa sa gitna ng kalsada."
so apparently, he isn't one of those "mababait" drivers he was talking about. He didn't give back my change.
I'm buying a car.
lumelevel up ang goya!

i am so freakin tired of everything going wrong
congratulations to glanna and rohan for a bouncing baby boy!
hindi ko alam kung bakti pero there's something wrong with the way Marian Rivera pronounces the word BEAUTIFUL in this new commercial which is so ironic because that was supposed to be the whole point of the commercial right?
it's either that or i really just don't like her.
p.s. she also looked like she was skipping to the window when she got up from the bed.
i'm really not a marian rivera fan.
dear Lord,
sana po bigyan pa ninyo ako ng isa pang utak.
Kung hindi posible, sana po lamunin na ako ng lupa.
ay alam ko na, sana po pwede ako magbakasyon habang may gumagawa ng dapat kong gawin.
thank you.
amen.

copied from Sherissa:
Why Is The Philippines Poor? by Dr. Arsenio Martin of Fort Arthur, Texas.
THE DIFFERENCE The difference between the poor countries and the rich ones is not the age of the country.
This can be shown by countries like India & Egypt , that are more than 2000 years old, but are poor.
On the other hand, Canada , Australia & New Zealand, that 150 years ago were inexpressive, today are developed countries, and are rich.
The difference between poor & rich countries does not reside in the available natural resources.
Japan has a limited territory, 80% mountainous, inadequate for agriculture & cattle raising, but it is the second world economy. The country is like an immense floating factory, importing raw materials from the whole world and exporting manufactured products.
Another example is Switzerland, which does not plant cocoa but has the best chocolate in the world. In its little territory they raise animals and plant the soil during 4 months per year. Not enough, they produce dairy products of the best quality! It is a small country that transmits an image of security, order & labor, which made it the world's strongest, safest place.
Executives from rich countries who communicate with their counterparts in poor countries show that there is no significant intellectual difference.
Race or skin color are also not important: immigrants labeled lazy in their countries of origin are the productive power in rich European countries. What is the difference then? The difference is the attitude of the people, framed along the years by the education & the culture & flawed tradition.
On analyzing the behavior of the people in rich & developed countries, we find that the great majority follow the following principles in their lives:
1. Ethics, as a basic principle. 2. Integrity. 3. Responsibility. 4. Respect to the laws & rules. 5. Respect to the rights of other citizens. 6. Work loving. 7. Strive for savings & investment. 8. Will of super action. 9. Punctuality. 10. and of course... Discipline
In poor countries, only a minority follow these basic principles in their daily life. The Philippines is not poor because we lack natural resources or because nature was cruel to us. In fact, we are supposedly rich in natural resources.
We are poor because we lack the correct attitude. We lack the will to comply with and teach these functional principles of rich & developed societies. If you do not forward this message nothing will happen to you. Your pet will not die, you will not be fired, you will not have bad luck for seven years, and also, you will not get sick or go hungry.
But those may happen because of your lack of discipline & laziness, your love for intrigue and politics, your indifference to saving for the future, your stubborn attitude.
If you love your country, let this message circulate so that many Filipinos could reflect about this, & CHANGE, ACT!
so yesterday i blogged about the very insensitive opinion of a Filipina medical practitioner in the states. Kat (former student) also blogged about it and we both got very strong reactions, all condemning the unethical statements of the blogger and the hospital involved in the issue. Today the very famous blogger posted a new, revised version of her opinion. yes, she apologized for her insensitivity and rephrased her statements. everythings been said and done. And I personally have committed erros also. I have to rewrite my blog for I’ve been getting overwhelming comments ( hindi ko kinakaya!) basically because of my usage of strong inappropriate words & crooked immature judgements and they are right..
she still basically believes she would still video the operation but was more sympathetic to the patient If you ask me? If i get to do all these? ILL DOCUMENT EACH AND EVERY LITTLE CASE i GET TO HANDLE.. and one day ill show it to my kids and tell them THATS MOMMY SAVING A PERSON's LIFE -WE ARE LAUGHING BECAUSE THIS PERSON STUCK A CANISTER UP IN HIS ASS WHEN HE KNOWS HE'S NOT SUPPOSED TO DO THAT.. THAT ANAK IS CALLED STUPIDITY AND THAT ANAK FEEDS OUR FAMILY
oh well.
you can't win them all.
at least she backtracked and thought about what she said.
back to work guys.
a few nights ago, the cebu hospital scandal was all over the news. For those of you who are not familiar with the story, there was a patient who had a canister of body spray stuck up his ass. The hospital staff, including the doctors and nurses in the operating room were taking videos and pictures of the entire operation, all the while, laughing and mocking the patient. Since it was such an uncommon and apparently hilarious sight, the video finally found its way to youtube and gained instant popularity. The patient then decides to sue the hospital. yada yada yada. Ok so, Gelo and I were searching for the video and came across this blogThe blog was written by a medical practitioner who apparently thinks it is OK to document and use accidents like this for personal entertainment. She even said that it was the patient's "kabobohan" naman daw. WTF?! I absolutely cannot believe that there are doctors and medical practitioners who think this way! She says that medical staff are humans beings too and that they are not immune to laughing at other people. WTF again?! MISS, ALL PROFESSIONS HAVE A CODE OF ETHICS THAT ARE EXPECTED TO BE FOLLOWED. and I'm pretty sure that making patients a nationwide laughingstock is not considered ethical. Yes, it is normal to laugh at incidents like these, but you could have avoided taking a video of it, and sharing it with other people, and posting it on the Internet.
As far as I know, medical practitioners should ALWAYS put the patient's well being FIRST. that goes beyond taking out whatever abnormality he/she has and stitching him up. that includes, not making him/her feel even more embarrassed of his/her medical situation. Medication is in fact not just physical, but emotional too. Do not use Grey's Anatomy as a reason for such an unethical act. I am a fan of Grey's Anatomy and correct me if I'm wrong but never have I seen an episode that showed the doctors to be as unethical and uncaring the way the doctors of Vicente Sotto Hospital were. The bottom line is that we have to be careful and responsible for our use of technology, whether that be the Internet, cellphones, TV, etc. Technology is everywhere and is so much a part of our lives which is why we should always strive to be critical and responsible users. If, as a medical practitioner, other people's illnesses and blaming it on their "kabobohan" is what you call FUN, then I think you have a serious problem. and if, this is how most FIlipino medical practitioners think, then I guess we are not producing the finest nurses and medical practitioners after all. P.S. miss blogger with questionable ethics, you might want to check your grammar too.

becasue it's earth day tomorrow
and because I watched GMA 7's SIGNOS (a docu on global warming)
and because global warming is fast becoming a reality and not just a concept I learned and never gave a second thought in elementary science
let's try to be more conscious of how we use our resources
1. turn off and unplug appliances when not in use . it cut down our electric bill almost half.
2. do not turn on faucets to the max so you don't use up too much water.
3. immediately repair leaking faucets. i know from experience how difficult it is to live in a house that does not have running water 24/7 and there are so many households that do not have running water, so value what you have :)
4. segregate your trash. and segregate correctly.
5. have a separate trash can for paper, and do not crumple or wet paper you are throwing out. that way, your trash can be recycled.
6. as much as possible, reuse paper and be mindful of the amount of clean paper you use.
7. use one ply tissue, mas mura na, mas konti pa ang punong napuputol dahil sa tissue consumption mo.
8. avoid using styro. Hello dazzie, J-J-J-JAR! :)
9. dahil may "rice shortage" daw, why not experiment with no-rice meals? pasta, salads, etc are just as filling and perhaps even more tasteful than your usual rice meals :) nakatipid ka na, nabusog ka pa, may nakain ka pang kakaiba :)
10. eat, drink, buy only what you can consume.
11. wash, iron clothes in bulk, that way you use less water and electricity in one sitting.
12. throw your trash in proper trash cans, keep trash in your pocket if you can't find a trash can, don't stick used gum under tables or chairs (ang jologs nun), do not spit on the road (that's just eeewwy), walk as much as possible (aminado ako, medyo mahirap to).
and
13. conserve water, shower together! hahahahahahaha!
we only have one earth, so let's keep it safe and let's take care of it in our own simple ways. It always starts with one person, in one home.
HAPPY EARTH DAY!
alam mo yung mga moments na gusto mong lamunin ka na ng lupa.
ganun.
ngayon.
waaaaaaaaaaaaaa
i just finished interviewing one respondent for my thesis and after each interview, i get this feeling that i wish i could speak better ilocano. they always ask me if i can speak ilocano and i always very timidly answer, "just a little. but i can understand ilocano" kababain ngay. her reaction was the most embarrassing for so far. when i said i dont speak fluent ilocano, she raised her eyebrows as if to say "apay ngay, ngem taga-baguio ka met?" i know speaking in ilocano would make it easier for us to converse, make them more comfortable and help me get more information from them. i wish we spoke more ilocano at home. i swear my kid (in the VERY DISTANT FUTURE ) will learn to speak ilocano, english and filipino fluently! yun lang. amoy ulam na ako dito sa cordi coffee perrraaawww libre intah-net so go na lang.
